Kent Interviews – Director of VAXXED II, Brian Burrowes…

A Canadian in the Fight…

By Kent Heckenlively, JD

Vaxxed II Director Brian Burrowes grew up in Eastern Canada, not far from where my own lovely wife grew up.  I’ve always said Canadians are the nicest people in the world.  And yet, I’ve noticed these polite, well-mannered individuals are often among the most fearless people you’re ever likely to encounter.

Case in point is my own lovely wife, marrying a mostly Sicilian man (on my mother’s side), and being the greatest partner I could ever ask for in this fight for the future, regarding vaccines.

Brian was also the editor of the first VAXXED movie, although during that effort he stayed mostly in the background.  I told him I’m always appreciative of  “civilians” who enter our movement, not having any vaccine-injured children themselves.

Prior to the interview I informed Brian I wanted to find out about how the VAXXED II effort is going, address some controversies which have come up, and address where we might be going in the future. On the issue of controversies, I specifically asked him to read my recent 10,000 word interview with Dr. Shiva Ayyudarai, who had expressed sharp opinions about the VAXXED movies and team.

Here is our conversation: (About 2,000 words, lightly edited for clarity.)

Kent:  First of all, Brian, what has the reaction been to VAXXED II?

Brian:  Hi Kent.  The reaction has been absolutely overwhelming.  You never know if what you’ve created works, or if it hits the mark, until you get it in front of audiences.  To be honest, I’m blown away by the response we’ve had.  We knew our community would get behind the film, that the story would hit home for the community.

What we didn’t anticipate was how our target audience, which is pro-vax people, people on the other side, young people who are on the fence about vaccines, would react.  We didn’t realize the effect the film would have to make people really, really question their belief system about vaccines.

We knew the community would love the parents’ stories, but I had absolutely no idea that we would have medical professionals reaching out to us and saying they have to figure out how to practice now, since their eyes have been opened.  We knew the parents’ stories were powerful, we just didn’t realize the effect they’d have.

So, it’s been really overwhelming.  It has the possibility to reach people we intended it to.  I’m just really happy about that.

Kent:  I understand there’s been some controversy with Dr. Shiva Ayyudarai.  I know you’ve read my interview with him.  What are your thoughts on Dr. Shiva and what he’s been saying?

Brian:  First of all, I’ve had no contact with Dr. Shiva personally.  I’ve seen a couple of his videos.  He seems like a brilliant, well-thought out person who has the best of intentions.  I think he knows the truth about this issue and is really passionate about it.

What happened on November 6 was that he went to a theater to do a Q & A and we had received a statement from AMC, who are behind our film, and behind us showing our film, but didn’t want any Q & As to happen in their theaters.  When Dr. Shiva arrived, specifically for the Q & A, I don’t think he actually saw the film.  It sounds like he showed up specifically for that Q & A, and when he was told it wouldn’t happen, he improvised, and got into the lobby of the AMC, and started doing it there.

As far as censorship, we’ve been accused of censoring what happened.  Because this was the first night we’d been out in the theater, and AMC is the biggest carrier for theatrical on demand, and since we’re going to be using their theaters for this film, we thought it would make sense to reach out to Dr. Shiva and say, could you take this down?  That’s all that Bella Tommey did.

She reached out to him and asked him to take the video down because we didn’t want any troubles with AMC.

Kent:  With my background as an attorney, one of the things I always advised my clients, is that there’s the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.  And it seems to me you were trying to follow the letter and spirit of your agreement.  So, you had no objection to Dr. Shiva saying exactly the things he said, but just in a different location?

Brian:  Absolutely.  We’ve been victims of censorship from the very beginning.  This film, but also VAXXED, and the tour that happened after VAXXED.  The censorship around the powers that be for the stories of these parents not to get out, has been incredible.  So, we’re well aware of the censorship issue, and we don’t promote censorship whatsoever.  We were just trying to make sure that this film was able to be seen by as many people as possible.

And if AMC had reacted badly to Dr. Shiva conducting a Q & A in the lobby, that could have been catastrophic.  Our main goal is for as many people to see this film as possible.

I understand why Dr. Shiva was upset, but it seems like it’s been taken to another level, a mountain has been made out of a mole-hill.

Kent:  It seems like Dr. Shiva has had the experience of being an untouchable in India, and he’s very sensitive to discrimination experienced by Indians, which he thinks your team did, and yet a very significant member of your crew is Indian.  Can you speak to to that?

Brian:  Anu Vaidya is 100% Indian, and he is a co-producer on our film and he’s very much involved in what we’e doing to promote the film.  He’s driving the bus that Polly Tommey is currently driving around the country in promotion of the film.  And my grandfather was half Indian and half Portuguese.  I read in his comments that the race card was being played.  It makes absolutely no sense at all, whatsoever.

But I understand.  I’ve been discriminated against.  I’m sure Anu has been discriminated against.  You develop a self-preservation, and any time somebody comes against you, it’s very easy to go to that place.  But in this circumstance, that has absolutely nothing to do with what happened.  It didn’t matter who he was.  If he was Santa Claus and he was giving a Q & A in support of us in that lobby, we would have asked him to take it down.

Kent: Okay, tell me how you see things going in the next three to six months?

Brian:  We are about to start getting the DVDs ready.  One of the things I’m really excited about is that since Polly has been on this tour up the east coast and back to Dallas, what’s happened has been the same thing that happened when we were promoting VAXXED.  Parents are coming out en masse to tell Polly their stories.  Polly, being in the first film and VAXXED II: The People’s Truth, parents relate to her because of her story and her story, so they sought her out after the first film.  And that played out in the first film.

The stories we’re being told now are unbelievable.  What we’re doing is putting together, we’re taking all the interviews she’s done on the road, since November 6, and putting them together as well.  It’s going to be a DVD of the film and this new tour as well.  The stories, Kent, are unbelievable.  Polly said to me the other day, “Vaccine injuries have gotten worse and worse.”  And her not being on the road for the past year and a half, she’s been shocked at what she’s hearing.

We’re going to put that out, I think at the beginning of February.

We’re still in theaters now.  There are Gathr screenings that are scheduled for June.  The film has an amazing momentum, there are a lot of people coming on board now that want to help spread the word, from politicians to doctors, to nurses.  It’s been overwhelming and we’re going to keep putting these parents’ stories out there because we’ve always felt it was the parents’ stories which are going to change this whole thing with vaccines.

Kent:  We talk about the people and children who are visibly injured.  And this may be a very controversial question and you may not want to go there.  But I wonder how many of our young people in their twenties and thirties, who don’t seem to have the capability to speak to people with whom they disagree, and significant numbers of young adults with psychological problems, do you think that might be one of the soft injuries of vaccines?  Or is that beyond where you want to go?

Brian:  Yeah, it might be beyond where I want to go.  But I don’t think we’re going to know the full extent of these injuries for years.  We always hear people say they realize vaccines might hurt some children, but their children are fine.  That’s why they say they’re pro-vaccines.

But, what is fine?  I think the definition of fine has changed over the years.  If you talk to a teacher that’s aging out, who’s been a teacher for 30 or 40 years, what they see in kids now as opposed to when they started, it’s completely different.  The amount of allergies, the amount of ADD/ADHD, all of these problems that weren’t around 20 or 30 years ago.

People don’t necessarily see that as vaccine injury, but I think a lot of the parents, if they realize these were actual adverse events, they would start realizing they were vaccine damaged.

When I emigrated to the United States in 1999, I came from Toronto, Canada.  Toronto is one of the cleanest, most beautiful cities in the world.  My wife, who’s American, she didn’t have to go through the same process I did for naturalization.  I lined up and was vaccinated from head to toe, coming from Toronto to the United States.

Shortly thereafter, when I got to the United States, I started having social anxiety, I started having motor skill issues, where I knew what I wanted to say, but the words just wouldn’t come out.  I started developing an allergy to wheat, but at the time I didn’t realize that was vaccines.

But once I found out there were other problems associated with vaccines, other than just becoming autistic or dying, I realized this was from the vaccines.  I hadn’t had any of these problems before.  I think there’s a lot of issues that are associated with these vaccines that people just don’t know about now.

Stephanie Seneff, a professor at MIT, says they are looking at the fact that their pool at the top of the top is starting to dwindle a bit.  I don’t know if it’s directly related to vaccines, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Kent:  Is there anything I didn’t ask that you want to talk about?  Any final message for the readers?

Brian:  Thanks for that, Kent.  One of the things I first saw with VAXXED, when I started working with Andy Wakefield and Polly Tommey, it shocked me how much infighting there was in our community.  People were at each other’s throats, and I just wondered how is this community ever going to get where we want to go if we’re not all paddling in the same direction?

One of the things VAXXED did was bring the community together in a way that I think made people say we’re all on the same page now and we can fight these people who are completely on the same page.  The pharmaceutical people or industry, different companies, they’re all on the same page.  They are fighting together and we need to do the same.

I saw the same thing with VAXXED II.  There’s a lot of infighting in our community and I think it really needs to stop.  Del Bigtree gave a really good speech on November 6, at our Q & A in Los Angeles, where he said the same thing.  We need to come together as a community or we’re sunk.  I’m hoping this film in some small way can do that.

Kent:  Anything else?

Brian:  Yeah.  As it pertains to Dr. Shiva, Polly Tommey had reached out to him.  We’re on the same team.  It’s a message to him.  We will help him out in any way possible.  We’ll get him copies of the film to show to anybody he likes.  We all need to be on the same page.  And I hope he understands where we were coming from and there’s no animosity whatsoever.

We’re all on the same team and we all need to be fighting side by side.

“The first amendment exists to protect everyone. It exists to allow all of us to have an open discussion with each other and our elected representatives. It does not exist to protect popular messages of the time, as those are protected by being widely accepted. In order to have an open and constructive conversation we must allow opposing views to be heard and discussed even those that are not protected merely by being popular in the moment.” Attorney for Sacramento 7, Brandon Leibrock

“We can not allow other people to create a fear in us that causes us to withdraw from this fight. They win if we allow to this happen. We need to come together and show them we are mothers and fathers who will do anything for our children.” – Crystal Shreeve (arrested September 9 for being locked to Capitol entrance door)

“I stood for my grandchildren because they are unvaccinated and healthy, because they lose their education due to this law. I stood for my children’s parental rights. And I stood for myself and all other adults they are coming for next. So we can make our own choices for our own healthcare and maintain bodily autonomy.” Carol Nelson (arrested September 9 for blocking one of the 2 driveways to the secure Capitol staff parking lot located under Capital building)

“We hear so much about the “tipping point” in terms of change on the critical issues of vaccine injury and related human rights. I ask you all – how would it change your life today if you knew we were at “critical mass” for things to begin to tip . . . If you knew that the only thing that’s keeping the dominos all upright is all the folks who haven’t yet stood up publicly and said “I’m ready to show up and do this work with you?” – Lisa Jenkins (arrested September 9 for blocking one of the 2 driveways to the secure Capitol staff parking lot located under Capital building)

“Mamma knows the baby better than anybody else. Political attacks can’t stop this movement. We do not consent. I am an anti segregationist. Join the movement.” – Mike Mattingly (arrested September 9 for singing a song and vocally protesting the passing of SB714 on Assembly floor)

  2. Wouldn’t hurt to have some testimony not just from parents of vaccination injuries but from those who have suffered themselves and who are still “able” to speak.
