Health Freedom:  CHELATION VICTORY in Connecticut…

Chelation therapy is now completely legal in Connecticut.

Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim Bolen

The Connecticut Medical Board, on Tuesday February 15th, 2005, was presented with a negotiated settlement in the Connecticut Health Department versus Robban Sica MD case.  The parties recommending this settlement were the Connecticut Department of Health (DOPH), the Connecticut Attorney General, Robban Sica MD and her attorneys, the International College of Integrative Medicine (ICIM), and the American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM).  The board accepted the recommendation.

I have to hand it to the people at DOPH.  They did a good job evaluating the evidence on chelation therapy – and were able to laugh off Big Pharma’s“quackbuster” onslaught.  Robert S. Baratz MD, DDS, PhD, a Massachusetts hair removal and ear piercing expert, the current president of the “quackbuster’s” sunken flagship the National Council Against Health Fraud (NCAHF) had tried to screech his way into the case, with eight separate letters – but was soundly rejected by DOPH.

The Connecticut chelation guidelines can, and will, be used nationwide.  I’ll have the details of the agreement in a few days.

The important thing for the North American Health Freedom Movement was what went on behind the scenes to get this accomplished.  Several years ago certain members of the ICIM membership decided to form a “Rapid Response Team” to back up members in individual cases, ruthlessly attacked by the “quackbuster” conspiracy.  As we see from the Kadile (Wisconsin), Shortt (South Carolina) and Sica (Connecticut) situations, the “Rapid Response” system works.

But, what hasn’t been evident, is ACAM’s role.  During both the Sica and Shortt cases, key ACAM members have been helping.  For years ICIM and ACAM have been industry rival associations – but that disappeared, recently, for several reasons.  Now, I’m fully aware, key members from both groups are discussing how the organizations can define their separate roles, cooperate, and work together.  I’M VERY PLEASED…

For, there is a lot more to do…

Stay tuned…
