I encourage you to look closely at this remarkable picture of me with Minister Tony Muhammad of the Nation of Islam, taken at the Revolution for Truth Rally in our nation’s capital. Minister Tony grew up on the mean streets of Atlanta, Georgia, and was raised by a single mother with ten children. And me? I grew up on the fourteenth hole of Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, California, one of the wealthiest zip codes in the United States.
Do we look like friends? Do we look like the members of a mutual admiration society? Personally, I consider Minister Tony Muhammad to be my brother. He is a fellow warrior for truth and like the members of a well-trained military unit, I would gladly take a bullet for him.
I know many of you may be asking yourself why a white guy like me is so enamored of the Nation of Islam. Aren’t they a black separatist group who hates white people?
Well, after fighting in the trenches of the vaccine/autism war for more than a decade I’ve become a little wary of believing everything the mainstream media says about a group.
I mean, if you listen to what the mainstream media says about people like me, I supposedly want kids to die of disease.
I interviewed Minister Tony Muhammad for my book, INOCULATED: How Science Lost its Soul in Autism, to find out how he and Minister Louis Farrakhan became involved in this issue.
Minister Tony Muhammad is in charge of the Los Angeles Mosque of the Nation of Islam and is responsible for most of the Nation’s activities west of the Mississippi. About a year ago, Minister Tony got a call from one of his members, saying that Robert Kennedy, Jr. wanted to meet a member of the black community who had the courage to take on the vaccine/autism issue.
The minister agreed to the meeting.
He was shocked by the story told to him by Robert Kennedy, Jr. of how Dr. William Thompson, a senior scientist at the Centers for Disease Control was alleging a cover-up of data showing that African-American males were at an increased risk of autism from earlier administration of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Minister Tony immediately realized the significance of the information and put in a call to the head of the Nation of Islam, Minister Louis Farrakhan, to tell him about what he’d heard. Minister Farrakhan asked the group if they would be willing to fly out to Chicago to discuss the information with him personally.
It was an eclectic group which flew out to Chicago. There was Robert Kennedy, Jr., Dr. Brian Hooker, the scientist to whom Dr. Thompson had first revealed the corruption, Barry Segal, the founder of Focus for Health, documentary film-makers Eric Gladen and Shiloh Levine, and Michelle Ford, the founder of the Vaccine Injury Awareness League (VIAL).
Prior to flying out to Chicago, Michelle and her husband did some research on the Nation of Islam and the information concerned them. Her husband advised her not to go. But Michelle believed that even if they were a group which hated white people, this was about everybody’s children, ours and theirs.
When they got to the Minister’s residence, each of them were searched for weapons, including Robert Kennedy, Jr. Within a few minutes of talking to the Minister, they realized that he was quite different from the media reports. Barry Segal was the first to comment on the stark difference between what he’d expected from the Minister and what he was experiencing. The Minister chuckled and said, “Well, you only know me from sound-bites in the media. If I gave you Jesus in sound-bites, I could probably convince you he was a hater as well.”
The two groups very quickly decided they could work together. Minister Farrakhan said that for a long time he had been concerned solely with the well-being of the blacks in America, but it was becoming clear that all people needed to join together to fight this assault on all of humanity’s children.
I interviewed Minister Tony Muhammad extensively for my book (chapter 10) and he talked about how this issue was being viewed by the Nation of Islam. After Minister Tony Muhammad failed to get Congressman Elijah Cummings to become interested in this issue and was downhearted about how so many black officials were turning a blind eye to this issue, Minister Farrakhan had some words for him.
Minister Farrakhan said, “This act is so criminal. When the American people find out the truth about what’s going on in the CDC, I feel sorry for all the white and black politicians. Brother, you are dealing with people’s children. You ain’t seen Caucasians get angry. They will go into the statehouses, grab these politicians, tie them to the back of a truck, and drag them down the street. The American people are at a boiling point. They’d better tell the truth while they have a chance. Because if the truth comes out any other way, it could tear up this country. This truly is something that could tear up the country.”
When a dispute arose in the vaccine safety movement between those who were focusing on the mercury derivative, thimerosal, and those who were more focused on the MMR vaccine, Minister Tony was quick to jump into the fray. “It’s boring if everybody brings the same weapon to fight the enemy. I said to some in the vaccine community, ‘when America goes to war she calls on her European allies. They don’t all bring the same weapon. One has better intelligence. One has a better navy. One has a better air force. One has a better army. But damn it, when they got a common enemy, they go to war.’ I said, same thing here. If one is working on thimerosal, and one is working on MMR, who gives a damn? We are all fighting the same enemy and you need to stop it. I’m a black man who is now in the vaccine movement. And I’m gonna call you all together and call you all out. I’m having to use the bully pulpit, man. Because we all got to stand together.”
I am proud to call Minister Tony Muhammad my friend.
He has now traveled to more than forty US cities to talk about this issue and how the CDC threatens the health of all our children. Walls are being broken down and people of goodwill are coming together. We are gaining powerful allies in our fight to tell the truth about vaccine injury.
